After a long flight of about 9.5 hours on Alaska Airlines from New York, you arrive in Alaska. When you get off the plane, you are surprised to find that your mobile phone has no service. This is because you are using a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) service with a T-Mobile base station.
Why does T-Mobile not have a base station in Alaska? Because only T-Mobile postpaid subscribers have a signal in Alaska, and they are supposedly roaming on AT&T base stations. There is no signal at all for prepaid subscribers. Mobile virtual network operators, such as those using T-Mobile base stations, also have no signal at all.
So if you are a T-Mobile postpaid subscriber or an MVNO using T-Mobile base stations. You need to be prepared before you leave for Alaska or you really will be temporarily blind.
